Welcome to the weekly threat detection update report from Stamus Networks. Each week, you will receive this email with a summary of the updates.
Current Stamus Threat Intelligence (STI) release version: 1645
This week, in addition to daily ruleset and IOC updates, we provided Stamus Security Platform customers with the following improved defense(s):
New threat detection(s) added [1]: 7 (MixShell, QNAPCrypt, PhantomPulse, REMUS, PHASEJAM, MaaS, LedgerChecker)
Major changes to detections(s) [2]: 137
Updated threat detection(s) [3]: 162
Note: a "method" as referenced below, is a discrete detection vector for a given threat.
The following detections were added to your Clear NDR this past week:
MixShell is an in-memory implant using DNS TXT tunneling and HTTP fallback for C2 communication. It supports various operations and uses a custom hashing algorithm to locate Windows API functions dynamically.
MixShell - thehackernewsTotal number of detection methods: 2
Kill chain phase(s): command and control
MITRE ATT&CK: T1071
QNAPCrypt ransomware encrypts files and delivers ransom note via text file. It operates differently by providing unique Bitcoin wallets to victims and requiring RSA key from C&C server before encryption.
QNAPCrypt - Intezer |Total number of detection methods: 4
Kill chain phase(s): command and control, actions on objectives
Elastic Security Labs discovered a social engineering campaign using Obsidian to target financial and cryptocurrency sectors. Elastic Defend detected and blocked the attack early, preventing the deployment of a new RAT named PHANTOMPULSE.
