This week, in addition to daily ruleset and IOC updates, we provided Stamus Security Platform customers with the following improved defense(s):

  • New threat detection(s) added [1]: 7 (MixShell, QNAPCrypt, PhantomPulse, REMUS, PHASEJAM, MaaS, LedgerChecker)

  • Major changes to detections(s) [2]: 137

  • Updated threat detection(s) [3]: 162

Note: a "method" as referenced below, is a discrete detection vector for a given threat.

New Threat(s) Detected

The following detections were added to your Clear NDR this past week:

MixShell (RAT)

MixShell is an in-memory implant using DNS TXT tunneling and HTTP fallback for C2 communication. It supports various operations and uses a custom hashing algorithm to locate Windows API functions dynamically.

MixShell - thehackernews
  •
  • Total number of detection methods: 2

  • Kill chain phase(s): command and control

  • MITRE ATT&CK: T1071

QNAPCrypt (Ransomware)

QNAPCrypt ransomware encrypts files and delivers ransom note via text file. It operates differently by providing unique Bitcoin wallets to victims and requiring RSA key from C&C server before encryption.

QNAPCrypt - Intezer |
  • Total number of detection methods: 4

  • Kill chain phase(s): command and control, actions on objectives

PhantomPulse (RAT)

Elastic Security Labs discovered a social engineering campaign using Obsidian to target financial and cryptocurrency sectors. Elastic Defend detected and blocked the attack early, preventing the deployment of a new RAT named PHANTOMPULSE.

  • Total number of detection methods: 4

  • Kill chain phase(s): command and control, delivery

REMUS (Data Theft)

Gen believes this new malware is a 64-bit version of Lumma Stealer, capable of stealing various valuable information like browser passwords and cryptocurrency. It uses EtherHiding and includes anti-analysis checks.

  • Total number of detection methods: 6

  • Kill chain phase(s): command and control, actions on objectives

  • MITRE ATT&CK: T1071

PHASEJAM (Trojan)

PHASEJAM is a malicious bash script that inserts a web shell into Ivanti Connect Secure appliance components, allowing remote access and code execution by threat actors. It blocks system upgrades and can execute arbitrary commands.

  • Total number of detection methods: 2

  • Kill chain phase(s): command and control

  • MITRE ATT&CK: T1505

MaaS (Data Theft)

MaaS is a cybercrime business model where developers lease or sell malware to affiliates on the dark web. Customers pay using cryptocurrency for tools like ransomware and keyloggers, with customer support and evasion updates included. This model lowers the barrier to entry for cybercrime.

  • Total number of detection methods: 8

  • Kill chain phase(s): command and control, delivery

  • MITRE ATT&CK: T1105, T1071

LedgerChecker (Data Theft)

LedgerChecker Stealer is a Windows-based malware that steals sensitive user data, focusing on cryptocurrency assets like seed phrases and private keys. Discovered in April 2026, actively tracked by malware analysts.

  • Total number of detection methods: 1

  • Kill chain phase(s): command and control

  • MITRE ATT&CK: T1005

Major Detection Changes

The following detections were updated this past week with changes to kill chain phase(s) or MITRE ATT&CK tactic(s)/technique(s):

BPFDoor (Backdoor)

BPFDoor is a passive backdoor used by a China-based threat actor, supporting TCP, UDP, and ICMP protocols for C2 communication, providing the actor with various interaction methods with the implant.

  • Added kill chain phase(s): command and control

  • Previously supported kill chain phase(s): command and control

  • Methods added: 7

Fake Browser (Trojan)

Attackers infect enterprise networks with malware by promoting fake browser updates on hacked websites, leading to the installation of banking trojans and later ransomware encryption on compromised networks.

  • Added kill chain phase(s): exploitation

  • Previously supported kill chain phase(s): delivery, exploitation, command and control

  • MITRE ATT&CK added: T1189

  • Previously existing MITRE ATT&CK: T1071, T1189

  • Methods added: 27

LandUpdate808 (Trojan)

Fake update variants like SocGholish, Clear Fake, Smart Ape, and ClickFix are being tracked by a collaboration introducing the LandUpdate808 Fake Update Variant.

  • Added kill chain phase(s): command and control

  • Previously supported kill chain phase(s): delivery, command and control, exploitation, actions on objectives

  • MITRE ATT&CK added: T1189

  • Previously existing MITRE ATT&CK: T1189, T1105, T1071

  • Methods added: 9

Lumma (Data Theft)

Lumma is a C-based information stealer sold on Russian underground forums and Telegram by LummaC since August 2022. It targets cryptocurrency wallets and has file grabber capabilities.

  • Added kill chain phase(s): command and control, actions on objectives

  • Previously supported kill chain phase(s): actions on objectives, command and control, installation, delivery
