Chrysalis (Backdoor)

Rapid7 Labs and MDR team discovered a sophisticated campaign by Chinese APT group Lotus Blossom targeting organizations in Southeast Asia and Central America, using a custom backdoor called Chrysalis.

VoidLink (RAT)

VoidLink is a cloud-native Linux malware with modular post-exploitation capabilities for cloud environments. It showcases strong operational security features and is designed for long-term, stealthy access by sophisticated threat actors.

  • MITRE ATT&CK: T1071

 

NotepadPlus Supply Chain Attack (Supply Chain Attack)

Securelist telemetry revealed unique execution chains in a supply chain attack on Notepad++. Attackers rotated C2 server addresses over four months, targeting individuals and organizations in various countries, but Kaspersky solutions were able to block the attacks.

Pulsar RAT (RAT)

Pulsar RAT enables live chat control of compromised host while covertly delivering advanced infostealer via Donut Loader, highlighting dual capabilities of interactive administration and stealthy payload delivery.

China's APT17 is a threat group targeting U.S. government entities, defense industry, law firms, IT companies, mining companies, and NGOs with network intrusions.

ClickFix (Phishing)

In April 2024, researchers found compromised sites leading to an iframe on pley[.]es showing an error message. The payload domain was taken offline, preventing infection. Later, the iframe was replaced with the ClearFake inject.

Cobalt Strike is a commercial penetration testing tool that simulates advanced threat actor attacks, covering the full range of ATT&CK tactics and integrating with tools like Metasploit and Mimikatz.

Fake Browser (Trojan)

Attackers infect enterprise networks with malware by promoting fake browser updates on hacked websites, leading to the installation of banking trojans and later ransomware encryption on compromised networks.

LandUpdate808 (Trojan)

Fake update variants like SocGholish, Clear Fake, Smart Ape, and ClickFix are being tracked by a collaboration introducing the LandUpdate808 Fake Update Variant.

Lumma (Data Theft)

Lumma is a C-based information stealer sold on Russian underground forums and Telegram by LummaC since August 2022. It targets cryptocurrency wallets and has file grabber capabilities.

BelialDemon launched Matanbuchus Loader, a malware-as-a-service for $2,500, to distribute second-stage malware. Malware loaders download malicious software from command and control servers.

Mustang Panda (APT)

Mustang Panda is a China-based cyber threat actor observed since 2017, possibly operating since 2014. It targets government and non-government organizations in multiple countries like the U.S., Germany, and Myanmar.

NetSupport RAT (RAT)

Remote Access Trojans allow covert surveillance and unauthorized access to victim PCs, collecting keystrokes, passwords, screenshots, and more. They differ from keyloggers by providing remote access capabilities to attackers.
