Welcome to the weekly threat detection update report from Stamus Networks. Each week, you will receive this email with a summary of the updates.
Current Stamus Threat Intelligence (STI) release version: 1446
This week, in addition to daily ruleset and IOC updates, we provided Stamus Security Platform customers with the following improved defense(s):
Note: a "method" as referenced below, is a discrete detection vector for a given threat.
The following detections were added to your Clear NDR this past week:
Researchers discovered Quad7 botnet using TCP port 7777 on compromised devices for slow "bruteforce" attacks on Microsoft 365 accounts. Socks5 proxies are deployed for these attacks.
ESET researchers discovered GhostRedirector targeting Windows servers with custom backdoor Rungan and IIS module Gamshen for SEO fraud, potentially damaging website reputation through association with shady techniques.
Symantec researchers discovered the Betruger malware, a multi-function backdoor likely designed for ransomware attacks. It has various capabilities, including keylogging, network scanning, and uploading files to a C2 server.
Proofpoint researchers discovered a rise in Stealerium-based malware campaigns, including those by cybercriminal actors TA2715 and TA2536 in May 2025. Multiple campaigns using different methods were identified through August 2025.
The following detections were updated this past week with changes to kill chain phase(s) or MITRE ATT&CK tactic(s)/technique(s):
Adversaries may use custom command and control protocols to communicate, mimicking or developing protocols on top of standard network stacks, instead of using existing Standard Application Layer Protocols.
Loaders are remote access Trojans allowing attackers to control compromised computers. These often lightweight to avoid detection by security technology, some now include advanced features like UI and self-healing capabilities.
Phishing involves scammers posing as familiar companies to obtain personal information. Consumers should avoid responding to suspicious emails requesting personal or financial details to prevent falling victim to these scams.
Kimsuky, a North Korean threat group since 2013, targets think tanks and nuclear-related entities. Recently expanded to US, Russia, Europe; known for Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. compromise.
Fake update variants like SocGholish, Clear Fake, Smart Ape, and ClickFix are being tracked by a collaboration introducing the LandUpdate808 Fake Update Variant.
LimeRat is a dangerous open source malware that can function as ransomware, a cryptocurrency miner, information stealer, keylogger, and worm, compromising computer security.
Lumma is a C-based information stealer sold on Russian underground forums and Telegram by LummaC since August 2022. It targets cryptocurrency wallets and has file grabber capabilities.
Remote Access Trojans allow covert surveillance and unauthorized access to victim PCs, collecting keystrokes, passwords, screenshots, and more. They differ from keyloggers by providing remote access capabilities to attackers.
Oyster is a new loader and backdoor first seen in September 2023. It comprises two executables: Oyster Installer and Oyster Main, used by former WIZARD SPIDER affiliates.
Remote Access Trojans allow covert surveillance and unauthorized access to victim PCs, collecting data like keystrokes and screenshots. They differ from keyloggers by enabling remote access for attackers.
Rhadamanthys is a malware designed to steal data from infected machines.
Malwarebytes found a new social engineering toolkit that uses compromised websites to perform advanced fingerprinting checks and deliver the NetSupport RAT payload.
Info stealers gather sensitive data on infected computers to send to attackers, typically targeting online banking, social media, email, and FTP accounts. They use various methods including hooking browsers and keylogging.
Proofpoint has identified an Indian APT actor known as TA425.
TinyNuke (Nuclear Bot) is a banking trojan sold on underground marketplaces for $2500 in 2016, functioning like ZeuS to steal passwords. Its author later destroyed reputation by aggressive promotion.
Sophisticated adversary with expertise and resources uses multiple attack vectors to establish presence in organizations' IT infrastructure, exfiltrate information, undermine missions, and persistently adapt to defenders.
Cyble research labs found a malware developer advertising a powerful Windows RAT on the dark web during a threat-hunting exercise.
The following threat detection(s) were improved this past week with new or updated threat methods.
