Welcome to the weekly threat detection update report from Stamus Networks. Each week, you will receive this email with a summary of the updates.
Current Stamus Threat Intelligence (STI) release version: 1356
This week, in addition to daily ruleset and IOC updates, we provided Stamus Security Platform customers with the following improved defense(s):
Note: a "method" as referenced below, is a discrete detection vector for a given threat.
The following detections were added to your Clear NDR this past week:
Keystroke logging involves recording keys struck on a keyboard, often done covertly, allowing the person monitoring to retrieve data. It can be done through software or hardware.
Generic Keylogger - MITRE - Input Capture: Keylogging |
VENOM SPIDER is a developer of hacking tools including SKID, VenomKit, and Taurus Loader. The adversary, 'badbullzvenom', has been active since 2012 in Russian underground forums, specializing in exploiting vulnerabilities and maintaining access to victim machines.
Venom Spider - Proofpoint | Venom Spider - Arctic wolf |
Since 2016, the DollyWay malware operation has compromised over 20,000 WordPress sites globally, evolving to redirect users to malicious sites and distribute harmful payloads like ransomware and banking trojans.
DollyWay - GoDaddy |
The following detections were updated this past week with changes to kill chain phase(s) or MITRE ATT&CK tactic(s)/technique(s):
APT28, linked to Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate, compromised the Hillary Clinton campaign, DNC, and DCCC in 2016 to interfere with U.S. election. Active since 2004.
In April 2024, researchers found compromised sites leading to an iframe on pley[.]es showing an error message. The payload domain was taken offline, preventing infection. Later, the iframe was replaced with the ClearFake inject.
Adversaries may use custom command and control protocols to communicate, mimicking or developing protocols on top of standard network stacks, instead of using existing Standard Application Layer Protocols.
DarkCrystal, or dcRAT, is a dangerous Remote Access Trojan that gives hackers control over infected devices, posing significant threats to user safety. RATs can manipulate machines in different ways.
Attackers infect enterprise networks with malware by promoting fake browser updates on hacked websites, leading to the installation of banking trojans and later ransomware encryption on compromised networks.
Gamaredon Group, active since 2013, targets individuals linked to the Ukrainian government. Named after a misspelled "Armageddon", the group's activities have been documented in early campaigns.
Interlock ransomware, discovered in 2024, engages in Big Game Hunting and double extortion but doesn't operate as a Ransomware-as-a-Service group. Data Leak Site "Worldwide Secrets Blog" negotiates ransom prices with victims.
Fake update variants like SocGholish, Clear Fake, Smart Ape, and ClickFix are being tracked by a collaboration introducing the LandUpdate808 Fake Update Variant.
Lumma is a C-based information stealer sold on Russian underground forums and Telegram by LummaC since August 2022. It targets cryptocurrency wallets and has file grabber capabilities.
Remote Access Trojans allow covert surveillance and unauthorized access to victim PCs, collecting keystrokes, passwords, screenshots, and more. They differ from keyloggers by providing remote access capabilities to attackers.

Malwarebytes found a new social engineering toolkit that uses compromised websites to perform advanced fingerprinting checks and deliver the NetSupport RAT payload.
An APT is a sophisticated, long-term cyber-attack carried out by skilled threat actors with significant resources. Unlike short-lived attacks, APTs focus on sustained operation and specific objectives, often sponsored by nation-states or large criminal organizations.
Cyble research labs found a malware developer advertising a powerful Windows RAT on the dark web during a threat-hunting exercise.
Zebrocy is a versatile Trojan used by APT28 since 2015, with variants in multiple programming languages like C++, Delphi, and C#. It is detailed on MITRE.
